More good news for homebuyers on Stamp Duty and Land Transaction Tax.

18 March 2021

By Philip H Yates, Consultant: Mortgages & Equity Release

Positive news for homebuyers with the stamp duty holiday in England extended to the end of June, then tapered until the end of September and the Land Transaction Tax reductions in Wales extended to July.

These extensions are welcome news for homebuyers with transactions that had been delayed and looked likely to miss the previous deadline of 31 March.

These extensions will also benefit those buying a second property and buy to let purchasers – a market which is currently very buoyant.

In the budget, the chancellor also announced the launch of a new Government backed scheme for 95% mortgages. At the time of writing, we do not have any details on this scheme and the Government, and lenders are working together to finalise the full details.

In addition, many lenders who had restricted their schemes over recent months are announcing changes which will improve their lending criteria and offer a wider range of competitive interest rates.

We are truly independent, and this is always a major factor when clients speak to us. It enables us to research the whole mortgage market (not just the high street lenders) to obtain the best scheme to match our client’s personal circumstances and requirements.
